The purpose of this paper is to examine and evaluate the idea of "fewer children, better life", an idea that plays an important role in the reluctance of Iranian families to have children. Therefore, the authors seek to discover the origin of this thought, and the grounds and motives for its emergence and growth in the contemporary Iranian society. "The development of Malthusian ideas," "the growth of independence-seeking in women" and "the growth of extremist individualistic beliefs," are among the important reasons and motivations that the present study describes and reviews through a documentary approach and the descriptive-analytical method. تحولات اخیر جمعیتی کشور بیش از هر عاملی، ریشه در باورها، ارزش ها و نگرش های زوجین نسبت به فرزندآوری دارد؛ زیرا تصمیم به فرزندآوری یا بی میلی به آن، کُنشی معنادار است که به صورت تصادفی رخ نمی دهد، بلکه مبتنی بر پنداشت ها و متأثر از پیش فرض هایی است. هدف این نوشتار بررسی و ارزیابی اندیشة «فرزند کمتر، زندگی بهتر» است؛ اندیشه ای که نقش مهمی در بی میلی خانواده های ایرانی به فرزندآوری دارد. نویسندگان در این زمینه می کوشند ضمن کشف خاستگاه این اندیشه، زمینه ها و انگیزه های ظهور و رشد آن را در جامعة معاصر ایران پی گیری کنند. «گسترش اندیشه های مالتوسی»، «رشد استقلال خواهی زنان» و «رشد باورهای فردگراییِ افراطی»، از جمله زمینه ها و انگیزه های مهمی است که پژوهش حاضر، با روش اسنادی و رویکرد توصیفی ـ تحلیلی به شرح و نقد آنها می پردازد. https://marifat.nashriyat.ir/sites/marifat.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/5_37.pdf
