Abstract
Ferdowsi's Razznamah-Bazmnamah is one of the most outstanding literary masterpieces in the world. It is full of the names and stories of heroes, kings, immortals, women, and even anti-heroes. It seems that, contrary to the view of Shahnameh’s commentators, the heroes in this valuable work were not much of heroes. Sometimes they did not possess any heroism and were so obsessed with food, sleep, anger, and lust that they were not worthy of the name of hero at all. The relationship between Tehmina and Rostam, the fight between Giv and Tous over a who runaway girl, the trick of Rostam and the coward killing of Sohrab, etc. are clear examples that show some of the heroes in this book had no heroic character. This may indicate that the heroism is what was missing in the age of Ferdowsi, especially since Ferdowsi had a short time gap with Ali Ibn Abi Talib, the true leader of the world's warriors. It seems very strange that this very clear point has been ignored by the sharp eyes of the commentators of Shahnameh and the scholars of Persian literature until today. The authors of this article believe that the title "hero" given by Ferdowsi to some of the characters in his masterpiece in the fourth century is similar to the title of "pious" Hafez used in the eighth century to mock the worldly and the materialistic. Using the library method, this study aims to express only some of the characteristics of the heroes of the Shahnameh with a deconstructive approach, apart from mentioning the stylistic and linguistic features of the Shahnameh. It proves that Ferdowsi mocked some of the characters of the literary masterpiece by calling them "heroes", just as Hafez referred to the hypocrites of his age as the ascetic and pious.
