Abstract The Verse 59 of Surah "Al-Imran" is perhaps the only verse in the Qur'an that is cited both by evolutionists and by creationists. Therefore, it can be said that this verse is the locus of a fateful confrontation between these two groups, in such a way that the victory of each of these points of view in the interpretation of the mentioned verse can be a great triumph and a very great step towards the victory of that point of view over the other in the long-standing dispute over the Qur'an's view of the history of nature, especially the history of the creation of man on the earth. What follows is an attempt to make a fair and reasoned judgment between evolutionist and creationist readings of this noble verse. For this purpose, we first deal with the issues that must be resolved for a correct understanding of the verse, and then we deal with our interpretation of the verse. At the end, we propose and critique the evolutionists’ interpretation of this verse so that the reader can make an objective judgement in this regard.
