Abstract:
Among the fifth-century (Hijri) writers who wrote in rejection of a subject, Ibn Hazm has a specific position. While some Western and Muslim scholars refer to Ibn Hazm as the founder of the science of comparative religions, others do not consider the above theory to be correct because of the theological method and controversial nature of his critical works. In this analytical-descriptive study, in order to know the real position and role of this great Muslim thinker in the study of religions, Ibn Hazm's critiques of Christianity in the book "Al-Fasl" are examined on a case-by-case basis. The results of this study show that Ibn Hazm's method in "Al-Fasl" indicates a scientific and systematic method and it can be considered as the first methodical critical work in the field of religions, but due to the controversial nature of the writings, some superficial arguments and inaccurate references “Al-Fasl” cannot be considered a scientific and neutral book in its modern meaning.
