Abstract:
Given the importance of imagery in creating and conveying meaning, the question arises: what objectives do the meanings created by the metaphorical imagery of the Qur'an seek to achieve? To answer this question, one must consider the ultimate purpose of the Qur'an's revelation, which is to shape and develop all dimensions of human existence. Since understanding the objectives behind these metaphoric images relies on a precise comprehension of the specific figurative language used and its elements, this study first conducts a detailed analysis of the metaphors in question, followed by an interpretation of their aims. Accordingly, this article is a fundamental, theoretical, and exploratory research study that employs a descriptive-analytical method. In discussing the necessity of such a study, it is emphasized that failure to grasp the meanings and objectives of these verses can hinder the Qur'an's guiding purpose. It should also be noted that this imagery in Qur'anic metaphorical constructs has not yet been analyzed from such a perspective, making this a novel approach. Among the three dimensions of human existence, the Qur'an’s metaphors do not directly target human actions but rather focus on insights and inclinations (such as beliefs, morals, and emotions). Thus, the objectives of this imagery by God can be seen in fostering, refining, and completing these two dimensions. The findings of this research may contribute to a deeper understanding of the Qur'an's profound meanings and its impact on various aspects of human existence.
